Atascosa County Emergency Services District #1 is a political subdivision of the State of Texas serving the northwest portion of Atascosa County Texas as a taxing district to support emergency services, such as fire suppression and rescue services. The District is governed by a board of five commissioners who are appointed to staggered 2-year terms by the Commissioners Court of Atascosa County. They must be residents or taxpayers in the District. Atascosa County Emergency Services District #1 is funded by property taxes, which are based on appraisals of real and personal property such as single-family residential, multi-family residential, commercial, and raw land.
Atascosa County Emergency Services District #1 was created in 2020 by successful passage of an election as authorized by Chapter 775 of the Texas Health and Safety Code and as ordered by the Atascosa County Commissioners Court. The election served to establish a geographical boundary with the authorization to establish a property tax rate not to exceed $0.10 per $100.00 assessed value.
Each month the Commissioners hold a public board meeting to conduct the business of the District. These meetings are held at the Lytle VFD Fire Station, 15078 Main Street, Lytle, Texas 78052 on the 3rd Tuesday of every month starting at 6:00 PM.
